NEW DELHI: Airline passengers in parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland experienced travel disruption at airports on Saturday due to flight cancellations caused by Storm Kathleen.
The storm, named by the Irish meteorological service, is the 11th named storm of the 2023-24 season, impacting flights at airports in Ireland and the UK, including Manchester Airport and Belfast City Airport.
Dublin Airport advised travellers to check with their airlines for updates as weather conditions led to cancellations and diversions. EasyJet mentioned that flights to and from the Isle of Man and Belfast International were affected.
“We are doing all possible to minimise the impact of the weather disruption,” the airline said in a statement to Reuters.
The airline assured that efforts were being made to minimize disruptions. Passengers with cancelled flights were offered options for rebooking, refunds, accommodation, and meals. In Scotland, rail and ferry services were also disrupted by Storm Kathleen, with temporary speed restrictions in place.
Strong winds from the storm caused power outages, affecting around 34,000 homes, farms, and businesses in Ireland. ESB Networks reported crews responding to outages in impacted areas. The situation is being monitored closely.
