UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Peter Kyle will visit India on June 2 for high-level talks aimed at advancing trade ties and accelerating the implementation of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), officials said on Monday, reported ANI.

During his visit to New Delhi, Kyle is scheduled to meet Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss pending trade-related issues and the next steps for operationalising the recently concluded India-UK FTA.

Both sides are expected to review unresolved matters linked to the agreement and push for faster implementation of the deal.

The UK government also indicated that efforts are being intensified to bring the trade pact into force at the earliest.

“The UK is ramping up work this week to bring the UK-India Free Trade Agreement into force as soon as possible,” the UK government said, reported Reuters.

The India-UK FTA is expected to boost bilateral trade, expand market access across sectors and strengthen investment flows between the two economies. Both countries have been working on the implementation framework after concluding negotiations on the agreement earlier this year.
