However, GST collections declined from Rs 2.11 lakh crore in July 2026.
This surge was primarily propelled by import revenues, which jumped 29.0% to reach Rs 62,604 crore. Meanwhile, gross domestic GST revenues showed steady expansion, growing by 9.3% to ₹1,37,249 crore compared to Rs 1,25,570 crore in the same period last year.
The government registered a substantial escalation in total refund disbursements during August 2026. Total GST refunds climbed by 67.9% year-on-year to Rs 31,795 crore, up from Rs 18,935 crore in August 2025. Domestic GST refunds surged 72.6% to reach Rs 18,490 crore, while export tax refunds processed via ICEGATE expanded 61.8% to Rs 13,305 crore.
Factoring in the surge in refund activity, total net GST revenue stood at Rs 1,68,057 crore in August 2026, marking an 8.3% growth over the Rs 1,55,181 crore collected in August 2025.
Within net revenues, net customs GST revenue saw significant traction, rising 22.3% to Rs 49,299 crore, while net domestic revenue grew modestly by 3.4% to Rs 1,18,759 crore.
The 57th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is scheduled to be held on September 12, 2026, in New Delhi, according to an office memorandum issued by the GST Council Secretariat.
The meeting will commence at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 12. An Officers’ Meeting will precede the Council session on September 11, starting at 11:00 am, also in New Delhi.
