The National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC) has recommended proposals for monetising surplus land and building assets worth more than Rs 5,000 crore, as the government steps up efforts to unlock value from underutilised public assets.

The recommendations were made at the 21st meeting of NLMC’s board of directors on September 18, where the corporation reviewed the progress of its asset monetisation programme, financial performance and institutional initiatives, the Ministry of Finance said in a release.

The proposals cover surplus land and buildings identified for monetisation and are aimed at advancing the government’s broader objective of unlocking value from underutilised and surplus assets held by government entities.

At the meeting, the board reviewed NLMC’s engagement with Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and other government entities to identify suitable assets, conduct due diligence, undertake valuations and structure the monetisation process.

The board stressed the need to accelerate implementation, address procedural and other requirements and ensure that identified assets move ahead through appropriate and transparent mechanisms.

It also called for stronger coordination with stakeholder entities to maintain momentum and facilitate the timely monetisation of surplus assets. The latest recommendations mark another step in NLMC’s efforts to build a more structured process for monetising surplus public assets. The corporation works with ministries, departments, CPSEs and other government entities to identify, assess and facilitate the monetisation of assets that are no longer required or remain underutilised.

The Ministry of Finance said NLMC’s approach is centred on transparency, efficiency and value realisation, with the corporation supporting asset-owning entities through the identification, assessment and monetisation process.
