NEW DELHI: The government on Saturday said it has appointed Dr R Balasubramaniam and Dr Joram Aniya as full-time members of NITI Aayog.

This takes the total number of members in the Aayog to seven, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month restructured the institution with the appointment of a new vice chairman and five full-time members.

The PM is the chairman of the Aayog, which was constituted on January 1, 2015, in place of the Planning Commission.

While Ashok Lahiri has been appointed as the vice chairman of the Aayog, the new members are Rajiv Gauba, KV Raju, Gobardhan Das, M Srinivas and Abhay Karandikar. Gauba was appointed earlier, in March 2025.

The new members replace economist Ramesh Chand, who handled agriculture policy matters; economist Arvind Virmani, who oversaw trade matters; VK Saraswat, who led work on science and technology; and V K Paul, who handled health policy and played a key role during the Covid-19.
