Nirmala Sitharaman and IMF Deputy MD Nigel Clarke discuss India’s economic outlook and global growth

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Monday held discussions with IMF Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke on bilateral engagements and the economic outlook for India and the global economy.

The discussions entailed Sitharaman and Clarke reviewing India-IMF relations and acknowledged India’s role in aiding the South Asia Regional Training and Technical Assistance Center (SARTTAC).

The two sides underscored the need for continued India-IMF engagement in strengthening macroeconomic cooperation, supporting sound policies and contributing to greater regional and global economic resilience.

The discussions also covered India’s evolving growth trajectory and the impact of ongoing changes in the global economic landscape, including India’s trade priorities and developments in the global trading system.


They also discussed the recently concluded bilateral trade agreements and their impact on India’s economy.

Clarke also praised the government’s efforts to strengthen fiscal consolidation and its measures to support the economy in the aftermath of the West Asian crisis.
