CCI relaxes commitment norms, extends filing window to 60 days

NEW DELHI: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Wednesday relaxed its commitment regulations, allowing longer time-frames for filing and reviewing such applications, and wrapping up the whole process.

The regulator has extended the deadline for enterprises to file such applications to 60 days from the current 45 days, retaining power to grant another 30 days at its discretion in cases that warrant further relief.

Similarly, the Commission has eased the timeline for preliminary considerations of applications by it to 15 working days from the current seven. Also, the deadline to wrap up the entire commitment proceeding has been raised to 180 working days, with a provision for extension in complex cases, from the current 130 working days. The move comes at a time when the regulator is considering two key commitment applications by IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation, and Google. The CCI has sought stakeholder comments on these applications but hasn’t yet approved any of them.

The competition law allows enterprises facing antitrust probes to voluntarily propose remedial steps or commitments to address the regulator’s concerns and resolve cases. The latest relaxations are part of the Competition Commission of India (Commitment) Amendment Regulations, 2026, dated August 18 but notified on Wednesday. They take immediate effect. The regulator had, in late May, floated draft amendments to its commitment regulations, inviting stakeholder suggestions.
