“The department has observed that a significant number of tax audit reports for assessment year 2026-27 are yet to be filed, despite the extension of the deadline,” an official told ET. The deadline for furnishing tax audit reports has been extended to October 21 from the original September 30.
More than 19.5 lakh tax audit reports have been filed so far for AY26-27, but a significant number remain pending, prompting the department to step up its outreach, officials said. The move expands the SAKSHAM NUDGE initiative, which has so far primarily focused on taxpayers.
