Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a major breakthrough in Kolkata Metro’s Orange Line project after authorities successfully bridged the long-pending 62-metre viaduct gap at Chingrighata crossing. The crucial missing section on the New Garia-Airport Metro corridor was completed following intensive night work over two weekends. Vaishnaw said the project had remained stalled for years over traffic diversion permission issues. Authorities now expect commercial operations on the Orange Line to begin by December.
