The new labour laws are expected to benefit regular wage workers in non-agriculture sector as more than half of India’s regular wage and salaried workers remain outside the ambit of any formal social security benefit. The gender gap persists, with higher share of women without access to PF, pension, gratuity or healthcare benefits. Nearly 60% of salaried employees have no written job contract, while 47.3% are not eligible for paid leave. Overall, four in 10 salaried workers lack paid leave, a written job contract and any social security benefit. Anoushka Sawhney takes a look:
