Princess of Wales arrives at Wimbledon; rare public appearance since cancer announcement

NEW DELHI: The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a rare public appearance with her daughter Charlotte at Wimbledon on Sunday for the men’s final, marking her second outing since revealing her cancer diagnosis.
As the patron of the All England Club since 2016, Kate was expected to take her seat in the Royal Box at Centre Court to witness the championship match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
Although she was not present on Saturday to hand out the trophy to Barbora Krejcikova, who emerged victorious against Jasmine Paolini in the women’s final, it is one of her ceremonial duties as the club’s patron.
In March, Kate shared the news of her cancer diagnosis and the fact that she was undergoing chemotherapy. Since then, her only other public appearance was at King Charles III’s birthday parade last month.
Prior to that event, she released a statement indicating that she was “making good progress” but still experiencing both “good days and bad days.”
While Prince William, Kate’s husband and heir to the throne, has been a frequent attendee at Wimbledon finals, he had other plans on Sunday. As the president of the English Football Association, he intended to watch the men’s soccer European Championship final between England and Spain in Germany.
