NEW DELHI: A beer named after terrorist Osama Bin Laden has gone viral in UK forcing the company to disconnect mobile phones and shut website temporarily due to excess demand, the BBC reported.
“We’ve woken up the last couple of mornings with thousands and thousands and thousands of notifications,” co-owner Mitchell said.
The beer named Osama Bin Lager is sold by Mitchell Brewing Co, which also makes Kim Jong Ale and Putin Porter.
“They’re all tongue-in-cheek names – a nicer outlook on some horrible dictators,” Mitchell told BBC.
Millions of people have seen a photo of the beer, named after the former al-Qaeda commander who died in 2011, circulated on social media.
Talking about the possible risks of naming the beer after a terrorist, Mitchell said, “As far as I’m aware, no one’s been offended, but I’m sure there is someone out there.”
“I think there’s always a risk of somebody being offended,” co-owner and Luke’s wife Catherine Mitchell said.
