Oberoi Hotel: London to get an Oberoi Hotel by 2028; EIH to form company in the UK

NEW DELHI: London is all set to get an Oberoi Hotel by March 2028 and so could other cities in Britain. Oberoi parent EIH on Monday said it will incorporate a company in the UK. While this company will have an authorised share capital of GBP (British Pound) 30 million, EIH and its subsidiaries will own 51% stake in it. Last August, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries (which owns 18% stake in EIH) had announced it will jointly manage three properties – including one in the UK – with Oberoi.
With this move, Indian hospitality players will enhance their presence in London where as of now Taj has two hotels. The Indian origin Hinduja Group had recently converted Winston Churchill’s Old War Office in the heart of London into a luxury hotel. Taj has 27 hotels abroad (10 in the pipeline), Oberoi comes next with presence in many places like Morocco, UAE and Egypt. ITC Hotels recently opened its first property abroad in Colombo.
In a BSE filing Monday EIH detailed its UK – which has a significant Indian diaspora – plans. “Meeting held Monday approved an investment in a company to be incorporated in the United Kingdom… (To) enable the company to have a hotel presence in London, with the UK being a key source market,” it said in a regulatory filing.
“The Oberoi, London, (will be a) luxury hotel with 11 suites and six rooms. Investment required (estimated) GBP 15 million… Hotel will be operational by fourth quarter of Financial Year 2027-28,” EIH said about the upcoming London Oberoi.
Meanwhile, EIH – which is now on an expansion spree amod a legal battle between the Oberoi family promoters over late PRS Oberoi’s wills – is also going to develop a Trident hotel in Pune. It “approved an investment to develop a mixed use project in Pune comprising Trident Hotel with about 175 keys and commercial development with office space and food and beverage focused retail outlets (in 4.08
lacs sq. ft.) Total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 972 crore.
Commercial operations are expected to commence in Q1 FY 2029-30,” EIH said in a regulatory filing.
Reliance Industries had said last Aug: “Stoke Park Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, owns sports and leisure facilities in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire. The facilities include a hotel, sports facilities and one of the highest rated golf courses in Europe. Oberoi will assist with RIL to upgrade the facilities and make it an iconic world-class destination and to deliver an unrivalled experience for guests.”
