In 2020, when Harry and Meghan initially announced their intention to step back from their royal responsibilities, they initially sought a hybrid arrangement. However, Queen Elizabeth II presented them with a binary choice—either fully embrace royal duties or relinquish them entirely.
Opting for the latter, the couple retained their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, albeit no longer using the titles “His/Her Royal Highness.” Subsequently, in 2021, the monarch revoked the Sussexes‘ honorary royal patronages and military appointments.
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, concerns arose about King Charles’ approach towards his youngest son’s public revelations about the royal family.
Nonetheless, Jobson, who authored ‘Our King Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed’, recounted an encounter: “I was at Royal Ascot the other day and I met a source, who is quite close to the Royal Family,” Jobson revealed. “I said, ‘Well, what about all this stuff about stripping titles?’”
“If you’re going to have a President Meghan, then surely, they’re not going to want to have their royal titles and they will be kicked out of the line of succession?’ I asked. And he absolutely categorically said, that’s just not going to happen.”
Although it appears that the Sussexes will retain their titles, there have been minor adjustments, such as Harry quietly being stripped of the “His Royal Highness” designation from his profile page recently. This alteration occurred after the Express highlighted the “significant oversight” on their website. The publication noted that certain pages of the website continued to refer to Prince Harry using his ‘HRH’ title, even three years after his and Meghan’s withdrawal from royal duties.
