Invictus Games CEO shares how to address Harry and Meghan

Scott Moore, the newly appointed CEO of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, has shared an intriguing update regarding the preferred form of address for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In a departure from traditional royal protocol, Moore revealed he was advised that a straightforward “Ma’am” is appropriate for the Duchess of Sussex, while a simple “Sir” can be used for the Duke of Sussex.
According to a column by Richard Eden in the Daily Mail, Moore sought guidance on how to address the couple upon their upcoming visit. He was informed that, following their decision to step back as senior royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan no longer hold the titles of “Your Royal Highness.” This means they can retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, but their public address is now markedly less formal.
This shift contrasts sharply with Prince Harry’s previous preference for informality, as he once urged attendees at an Edinburgh tourism conference to simply call him Harry. However, as preparations for the Invictus Games gain momentum, the focus is once again on the couple, who made a public appearance in Vancouver earlier this year, engaging with competitors at Whistler Backcomb ski resort.
The 2025 Invictus Games will be a landmark event, introducing winter sports such as alpine skiing and snowboarding, and hosting around 550 athletes from 25 countries. The games, founded by Harry in 2014 to support wounded military personnel, continue to be a focal point for the Duke, despite his ongoing tensions with the royal family.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry made headlines during a rare public appearance in London for a service of thanksgiving commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. His attendance, noted as the only royal presence at the event, underscored his ongoing commitment to the games amidst personal challenges, including a strained relationship with his family and the absence of planned meetings with his father, King Charles, during his visit.
