The incident draw flak after the video went viral with home secretary James Cleverly called the action of the cop “heavy handed”. The incident took place on Friday night when Lucy probably went astray from her grazing enclosure and ended up at Stained-upon-Thames after swimming across a river.
In the viral video, the police car was seen hitting the calf making her roll down the road. She managed to be on her feet when the car ploughed into her for the second time. Several video showed her plight after the massive accident.
The driver of the vehicle has been removed from the frontline duties. “At this time, the officer who was driving the police car has been removed from frontline duties pending the outcome of these investigations,” deputy chief constable Nev Kemp said.
The Surrey Police said the decision to use a car to stop the animal was made for public safety.
