Indian-origin candidate Kanishka Narayan, who won the UK general elections from Wales as a Labour candidate, hails from Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
Kanishka’s uncle, Jayant Kumar, director of SKJ Law College, expressed his pride, stating that his nephew has brought honor to both Muzaffarpur and the entire country.
Jayant said, “Kanishka is my younger brother’s son.He left his job to contest the elections. He has always been interested in politics.”
Kanishka (33) was born in Muzaffarpur and studied there until the third standard.
Earlier, he was in civil service. He resigned from his job and entered politics following the announcement of the elections.
Around two months ago, Kanishka visited India with his family to attend a religious function.
Following his victory and becoming an MP, celebrations erupted at Kanishka’s residence in Muzaffarpur, located in Sandho Apartment, Damuchak.
“We are flooded with congratulatory messages and calls from friends and family. Kanishka is a proud Bihari and an Indian first,” said his uncle, Jayant Kumar.
Originally from Saundho in Vaishali district, Kanishka’s grandparents, Krishna Kumar and Veena Devi, settled in Muzaffarpur many years ago.
Krishna Kumar was the chairman of Muzaffarpur District Board and the founder of SKJ Law College.
Kanishka’s father, Santosh Kumar, and mother, Chetna Sinha, moved to Delhi after completing their studies at SKJ Law College.
Kanishka briefly attended APJ School in Delhi’s Saket. At the age of 12, he moved to Britain with his parents. He pursued his higher studies at Eton College and Oxford University, the same institutions where India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had graduated.
