The UK is committed to making its biggest capability transfer in its history as part of the UK-India plan to co-create a Rolls-Royce jet engine to Indian specifications, Alex Chalk, UK minister for defence procurement, said here on Monday, reports Pearl DSouza. “. . . This is not like other platforms where India would have to seek permissions to export either,” a UK delegation at the Aero India 2023 said.
“India will be the sixth nation to have this jet technology and it will be a sovereign Make-in-India capability,” Chalk said.
“We want to do this because we believe in a partnership. But the context is the security context you find yourself in — you have the presence in a difficult backyard of China,” he said. Stating that India is an important pillar of rules-based order, Chalk said to achieve that, it needs military capability.
