Bhim Sen Kohli murder: Teen charged with killing 80-year-old in Leicester Park attack

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 80-year-old Bhim Kohli, who died after being attacked while walking his dog in Braunstone, near Leicester, on Sunday. The boy appeared before a youth court in Leicester on Thursday, marking the latest in a series of violent incidents involving minors in the UK.
The elderly man was assaulted at Franklin Park, just 30 seconds from his home, around 6:30 pm.Kohli was left critically injured and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from a neck injury. According to police, a post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was the result of the neck injury.
During the court appearance, the boy, who cannot be named due to his age, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth. He is set to appear in Leicester Crown Court later the same day. Four other children—a 14-year-old girl and three others aged 12—were initially arrested on suspicion of murder but were later released without charge.
The victim’s family described Kohli as a “loving and caring person,” and his neighbors have also spoken out about his kind nature. One neighbor, Deep Singh Kalia, who had known Kohli for more than 30 years, said, “He loved his family, his dog, and his allotment. He was a kind, considerate man who was no threat to anyone.”
The tragic incident has further fueled concerns about rising youth violence in the U.K., particularly following recent cases where teenagers have been convicted of serious crimes.
Leicestershire Police continue to investigate the circumstances of Kohli’s death, with scene preservation still in place at Franklin Park where the attack occurred.
