Any direct attacks on Indian high commission unacceptable, safety of staff paramount: UK foreign secretary James Cleverly

NEW DELHI: UK foreign secretary James Cleverly on Thursday said any direct attacks on the Indian high commission in London are completely unacceptable.
“We have made clear to @VDoraiswami and the Government of India that the safety of staff at the High Commission is paramount.” Cleverly tweeted.

The statement comes after a poster promoting a Khalistan “Kill India” rally on July 8 outside the Indian high commission in London surfaced on Twitter.

The tweet has a poster with photos of Indian high commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami and Dr Shashank Vikram, consul-general of India, Birmingham.
Similar posters carrying photographs of Indian diplomats in Canada, the US and Australia and promoting Khalistan rallies on July 8 outside Indian missions have also appeared online.
Meanwhile, India summoned Canadian high commissioner Cameron Mackay to register a protest over the Canadian poster.
