When Mohammad Alam, 35, died in Jeddah in March 2022, his 85-year-old mother had just one wish. She turned down his employer’s offer of a burial there and compensation, reports Kanwardeep Singh.
“I just wanted a final goodbye for my devoted son,” said Maryam, breaking down as Alam’s body was finally flown from Jeddah to Lucknow and brought in an ambulance to Shahjahanpur on Monday. Though Alam’s estranged wife agreed to the burial, Maryam met politicians and authorities, telling them she wanted her son’s last rites to be performed in India.
