KARACHI: Several regions in Karachi experienced power outages on Monday due to a technical fault that caused a high tension (HT) transmission cable to trip. The blackout left approximately 40% of the city without electricity, as multiple grid stations also experienced tripping, ANI reported quoting ARY News.
The affected areas included Numaish Chowrangi, Saddar, Lines Area, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Punjab Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Korangi, and others. However, K-Electric, the company responsible for the city’s electrical supply, has yet to make any official statements regarding the situation.
This incident is not the first time that Karachi has experienced a power outage. In January, a severe breakdown in the national grid, caused by frequency fluctuations, left citizens of Karachi without electricity for an extended period.

According to Imran Rana, a spokesperson for K-Electric, the national grid experienced a loss of frequency, which resulted in power outages in several cities throughout Pakistan, including Karachi. Rana reassured the public that K-Electric’s network is secure and protected. He also mentioned that their teams are actively monitoring the situation and making efforts to restore power to affected areas.
“Our teams are actively monitoring the situation and making efforts to enable restoration,” Rana stated, as reported by ARY News.
