HYDERABAD: The Indian diaspora in the US has raised $271,000 so far to help the family of a 44-year-old man, hailing from Old Bowenpally in Hyderabad, who died in Tampa, Florida, in the United States. The target is to raise $500,000 for the funeral expenses and providing financial assistance to the bereaved family. The North American Telugu Society (NATS) Helpline team has started the fundraiser.
Deepak Chinthamalla died on April 26. He used to work for Centene Corporation.
“He was found unconscious in his vehicle in the parking lot where he was pronounced dead on April 26, 2023. It is a significant loss to his family, friends and community,” NATS said.
The Tampa police called his wife Swapna Kommarraju and gave the information. The couple has two sons aged nine and 14 years.
“Swapna never imagined being in this situation as a homemaker and dance instructor. The tragedy has left the family in shock and unprepared for the financial and emotional burden it has caused. The loss of a loved one is never easy, but it’s even harder for her younger son Happy who requires special care and has been deeply affected by Nana’s(Dad) absence,” NATA said.
“While grieving, Swapna is also struggling to cope with the mounting financial stress that comes with providing for her family’s needs, including care for Happy and Ayush, their education and planning the funeral. Therefore, she reached out to NATS Helpline for support. The NATS Helpline team has been providing necessary assistance to the family and friends for the past few days,” NATA added.
The fundraising was started to help cover the funeral expenses and near-term financial support for his family. The funeral was scheduled on May 2.
