A 23-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh died in Chicago, US, on Monday, a day after he was shot by armed assailants. The deceased was identified as Nandapu Devansh, a native of Vijayawada. The attack took place on Sunday when Devansh and his two friends — Koppala Sai Charan (22) from Hyderabad, and Lakshman of Visakhapatnam — were walking to a Walmart store in Chicago. They were accosted by armed assailants, who robbed the students and later opened fire at the students when they tried to escape. All three were taken to a hospital where Devansh succumbed to his injuries. Sai Charan is said to be out of danger. Lakshman managed to escape unhurt.
Police said Devansh completed his bachelor’s degree in engineering from a private college in Hyderabad and ahd gone to the US only 10 days ago to pursue the master’s course in the Governor’s State University in Chicago. The other two students too had left India for the US only about a fortnight ago. Chicago police are on the lookout for the suspects.
