India-origin mother pleads guilty to killing 10-year-old daughter in UK

Jaskirat Kaur, a 33-year-old mother, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her 10-year-old daughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The admission took place at Wolverhampton Crown Court on August 30, according to a report from Sky News.
On Monday, 4 March, police were called to the girl’s home in Robin Close, Rowley Regis, West Midlands, at approximately 12.10pm, where they discovered the young girl’s body.
An inquest into her death, held earlier this year at Black Country Coroner’s Court, revealed that she had died from stab wounds to the chest.
The girl was described as a “bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well-liked by all”,” according to a tribute released by her school, Brickhouse Primary School, following her tragic death.
Although Kaur denied murdering her daughter, Sally Howes KC, the prosecution counsel, accepted her guilty plea to manslaughter. Katherine Goddard KC, the defence barrister, said that there was “no dispute over the facts” of the case.
Appearing via video link, Kaur, dressed in a grey jumper, attended the brief hearing on Friday, only speaking to confirm her name and that she could hear Judge Michael Chambers KC. The judge set the sentencing date for 25 October and instructed Kaur to attend her sentencing in person.
