AHMEDABAD: The body of Ayush Dankhara (23) — a native of Bhavnagar in Gujarat and studying in Toronto, Canada — is likely to arrive at Ahmedabad international airport on Saturday evening.
Ayush went missing on May 5 and his body was found two days later on May 7 from below a bridge.
Ayush — son of Ramesh Dankhara, a DSP with Gujarat Police — is the second student from Gujarat studying in York University, Toronto, to have lost life in suspicious circumstances in less than a month.
The body of Harsh Patel, a student from Ahmedabad, was found on April 16.
Naran Dankhara, Ayush’s uncle, told TOI that Ayush completed his studies till class XII from Gandhinagar and had headed to York University in Toronto for his Bachelor of Engineering course in Computer Science.
“He was living in a shared apartment on Lawrence Avenue (West) in Toronto. His room partner informed my brother on May 6 that Ayush had not returned home for a day. He could not be contacted despite several attempts and thus the search started for him,” he said.
A formal missing complaint with 55th Division of Toronto police led the family to a body found on May 7 from below a bridge.
The photograph confirmed the deceased to be Ayush.
His father flew to Canada to complete the procedures and bring the body back for the last rites.
“The place from where the body is found is a bit of a desolate spot. His phone was missing, which was active for a few days even as nobody would answer it. We sent a few messages which were seen by someone. It’s too early to say what might have happened. Our focus is to complete the last rites. We have trust in police investigation,” said Naran Dankhara.
The family belongs to Sidsar near Bhavnagar where the last rites would take place on Sunday.
“His father made a name to always help everyone he came in contact with during his long stint in the CM security. Ayush had the same helpful nature where he would make an impression on anyone who would come in contact with him. We are still too stunned to process his untimely departure,” said Dankhara.
There are several similarities in the cases of Ayush and Harsh Patel — both were about to complete their studies from York University — Ayush his engineering and Harsh management studies.
Both bodies were found from water bodies – in the case of Harsh, it was a lake in the city.
Both went missing for over a day and in both cases, their phones were missing from near their bodies, ruling out the suicide angle.
The family of Harsh Patel is still in search of closure as no major details of his last day have come to light.
