NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old MTech student from Karnal, Navjeet Sandhu, was allegedly stabbed to death in Melbourne, Australia, during a dispute between some Indian students over a rent issue. The incident occurred on Saturday around 9 pm local time, according to the victim’s uncle, Yashvir.
Navjeet had accompanied his friend, another Indian student, to his house to collect his belongings.While his friend was inside, Navjeet heard shouts and witnessed a fight. When Navjeet tried to intervene asking them not to fight, he was fatally stabbed in the chest with a knife,” Yashvir, who is set to retire from the Army in July, said.
The alleged accused also hails from Karnal, and Navjeet’s friend, whom he was accompanying, sustained injuries in the incident as well.
The family received the information about the incident early Sunday morning and is currently in a state of shock.
Navjeet had moved to Australia on a study visa one-and-a-half years ago. His father, a farmer, had sold one-and-half acres of their land to fund his education.

The family is urging the Government of India to help them bring the body back as soon as possible.
