“You’re one of the most relentless leaders I have worked with. Best wishes for the future,” he added, with a smiley. In early August, Sinha had put out an elaborate post on LinkedIn on hiring a vice president and human resource head for the company’s offline centres business.
He had said in the post that Unacademy will be operating about 100 centres by December, serving about 50,000 learners and employing about 3,000 full-time employees and educators.
The startup, like its other peers in the test prep and K-12 segment, is currently undergoing a shift in strategy after multiple rounds of layoffs to prioritise the unit economics that put it on a path to profitability.
In June, Munjal had said that the company had reduced its monthly cashburn to Rs 1.9 crore, and clocked revenues worth Rs 130 crore in May.
Recently, the edtech unicorn had elevated Sumit Jain, who leads the company’s Graphy division, to partner, which is “like a cofounder who joined at a later stage,” as per Munjal.
Jain joined the company in April 2020 and co-founded the Graphy division that allows educators and creators to launch their own online courses. Unacademy was founded in 2015 by Munjal, Roman Saini and Hemesh Singh.
