Ambience Healthcare provides a set of software tools for hospitals and other healthcare organizations, powered by large language models, the same underlying technology behind Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s hit ChatGPT chatbot.

ChatGPT, which was released in late 2022, made generative AI a sensation with its ability to pen sonnets and write emails, but many believe its real economic value lies in enterprise applications like healthcare, finance and law. For instance, Google has released generative AI models dedicated to healthcare.

Ambience Healthcare’s flagship product, AutoScribe, is a real-time AI medical scribe used to generate medical notes. Other products assist in creating after-visit summaries, referrals to specialists and ensuring medical records correspond to billing codes.

The company’s cofounders declined to give specifics on what large language model provider they are using to power their solution. They did say they have customized, or “fine-tuned” their AI by medical specialty, so the product can cover a wide range of specialties and subspecialties.
