Filing ITR and facing issues on e-filing portal? Income Tax Department has solutions for you


The deadline to file income tax returns will end in a few hours, many taxpayers are in a rush to complete the submission of their returns. While a record 6 crore ITRs have been already filed, many of those who are yet to file are facing issues while trying to do so on the income tax department’s e-filing portal.

Many tax filers took to Twitter to voice their complaints on the income tax department’s official handle. The department has responded to many taxpayer tweets with solutions.

Let us look at some issues which taxpayer faced and what the income tax department gave as a reply or solution.

Website down, login issues

For those taxpayers who could not access the e-filing portal (website down), the income tax department has replied, “We had flagged this issue to the technical team. As informed by our team, the e-filing portal is working fine. Please retry after clearing the browser cache. If you still face any issues, please share your details (with PAN & mobile no.) at [email protected]. Our team will get in touch with you.”

PAN-Aadhaar linking issues

Some like this taxpayers could not get the OTP on their Aadhaar linked mobile numbers: Problem with pan aadhar link, it’s already linked and displayed, but when I try to forget my password using aadhar otp, it says link aadhar pan, please assist.

Income tax department replied in a tweet, “May we request you to share your details (along with PAN & your mobile no.) with us at [email protected] so that our team can get in touch with you.”

For some, PAN is showing as inactive: My dad is a senior Indian citizen and from last 5 days he is trying to file his ITR but your portal is showing his Pan card as inactive. Although he has been filing ITR on the same pan card from past so many years. Can you please guide how this can be resolved?
Income tax department replied, “Please share with us details of the case (along with PAN & your mobile number) via email at [email protected] so that our team can get in touch with you.”

ITR verification issues
For some the page has been taking a long time to finish as the verification process as the page is taking a long time to load: Unable to proceed further after verification again coming the same page.
The income tax department replied, “The field for section 80DD should be entered with specific amount and may be deleted if not applicable. Please start filing afresh after clearing browser cache. Alternatively, please import JSON file in the latest offline utility for filing the return.”

Validation errors
Another taxpayer said, “am getting the validation error – ‘The date should be before 01/04/2023 for AY 2023-24’ and the error when clicked doesn’t go anywhere. Please help”
Income tax department replied, “May we request you to share your details (along with PAN & your mobile no.) with us at [email protected] so that our team can get in touch with you.

Errors while filing ITR
Some have been encountering errors while filing their ITR: For the last five hours I have been trying to summit up a return but getting the same error even income tax toll free no not answering how to file return.
The Income tax department replied, “The field for section 80DD should be entered with specific amount and may be deleted if not applicable. Also, to avoid error related to “business code 44AD”, please save the data after adding the business income details, then confirm the schedule & retry filing. If you still face any issues, pl share your details (along with PAN& your Mobile No.) at
[email protected]. Our team will get in touch with you.”

Prefilled data not reflecting
Another set were having issues regarding prefilled information in their ITR forms: ITR-2 of PAN – A*****8G, was filled online but the prefilled data of schedules like Other Income and House Property and TDS are not showing now. As advised we have also cleared the cache and tried but still it’s not working. Issue and details shared over email.

Income tax department replied, “Please share the ticket no. that you may have received after submission of the issue via email. Alternatively, let us know the subject line (masking personal details) & timestamp of your email. We will follow up with the team concerned.”

E-filing portal slow
Income tax department replied, “Please retry after clearing the browser cache. If you still face any issues, please share your details (with PAN & mobile no.) at
[email protected] Our team will get in touch with you.”

Challan not showing for download
This taxpayer said: Payment made online, amount deducted from bank but challan not showing for download, what to do please help.

Income tax India replied, “May we request you to check your registered email for copy of challan. In case you need any further assistance, please share your details (along with PAN & your mobile no.) with us at [email protected] so that our team can get in touch with you.”
