NEW DELHI: Male central government employees can now include either their parents or parents-in-law as beneficiaries of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), subject to the condition of dependence and residence. Until now, only a woman central government staff could include either her parents or parents-in-law for CGHS benefits.
The health ministry, in an office memorandum issued on Wednesday, stated that the matter has been reviewed and it has been decided with the approval of the competent authority that that both male and female central government employees will have the choice to include either their parents or parents-in-law for benefits under CGHS, provided they are dependents and share the residence with the employee.
Under the CGHS, employees can avail of outpatient facilities at dedicated dispensaries and central government hospitals, as well as OPD and in-patient treatment at subsidised rates in accredited hospitals.
