On the eighth anniversary of the Jan Suraksha schemes, which also include the Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Sitharaman noted that these schemes aim to provide essential financial services to individuals from underprivileged backgrounds, thereby reducing their financial vulnerability.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the JanSuraksha schemes launched eight years ago have been a source of strong support for crores of Indians. “They have provided an effective social security cover to the people,” he said.
Under the PMSBY scheme, more than 115,000 families have received claims worth Rs 2,302 crore. The simplification of the claim process has resulted in faster settlement of claims , Sitharaman said.
As per latest data, 162 million, 342 million and 52 million enrolments have been done under the PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY, respectively, until April 26, 2023.
