“No date for the Sebi board meeting has been finalised yet,” said the source.
The deliberations at the meeting will be keenly watched, as the regulator is reportedly investigating the market rout in Adani Group’s stocks.
This followed a series of allegations, including stock manipulation, by US short-seller Hindenburg Research against the conglomerate. Adani Group has strongly refuted the allegations.
The seven listed firms of the group have lost more than $100 billion in market capitalisation since the Hindenburg Research’s report release on January 24.
Hearing a public interest litigation on this issue, the Supreme Court last week sought the views of the government and Sebi on whether the regulatory regime needs strengthening in order to ensure that investors are protected.
It also suggested that Sebi provide a report on the situation. Responding to a query on this, Sitharaman said on Saturday that the country’s regulators are experienced and fully cognisant of matters related to Adani Group.
