Even the number of orders in a year stood at an all-time high at 50,00,000. The year-wise procurement through the portal stood at Rs 422 crore in FY’17, Rs 5,876 crore in FY’18, Rs 17,462 crore in FY’19, Rs 22,989 crore in FY’20 and Rs 38,573 crore in FY’21.
The total procurement through the portal since its inception stood at Rs 3.9 lakh crore with an estimated 10% or over Rs 35,000 crore of savings to the government.
As per the government, out of the total procurement, the central government purchases stood at Rs 1,55,586 crore in FY’23 as against Rs 75,267 crore in FY’22, an increase of 106.7%.
Even the states’ procurement witnessed an increase of 35.7% to Rs 42,470 crore compared to Rs 31.280 crore in 2021-22.
“Achieving a milestone of Rs 2 lakh crore in five years shows that the experiment of PM Narendra Modi has been a great success. Procurement through GeM is not only simple and transparent but also enables people from all over the world to sell their products on the portal,” commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday.
According to Goyal, PM has always urged for our women entrepreneurs, startups, MSME sector to be able to participate in a fair and equitable manner in government procurement. GeM is a 100% government owned and national public procurement portal. It was launched in 2016 by the ministry of commerce and industry with an objective to create an open and transparent procurement platform for government buyers.
