The planned borrowing in H1 constitutes 57.55% of the total Rs 15.43 lakh crore planned for the current financial year. The government plans to borrow Rs 31,000 to Rs 39,000 in weekly tranches between the April-September period.
The government said the borrowing will be done through bonds of three, five, seven, 10, 14, 30 and 40 years tenure, the government further said in the release.
The government further said that there would not be fresh issue of Sovereign Green Bonds in H1. It may be issued in the second half of FY24, it added.
Government’s borrowing has more than doubled from 2019 levels, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi stormed to power for the second time in a row, as government’s social spending on free food and subsidies rose to record highs largely due to the pandemic.
The government plans to borrow Rs 4.16 lakh crore via treasury bills in the June quarter.
