Central team led by labour and employment secretary Sumita Dawra held discussions in this regard with five eastern states on Friday in Bhubaneswar. These included Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
This is the fourth meeting in a series of regional consultations being held by the ministry of labour and employment nationwide with the states and union territories (UTs) on key labour and employment issues.
The next regional meeting will be held in Lucknow with representatives from central states and the national capital territory of Delhi on September 27, 2024.
“Discussion was held on the need for the centre and states as well as union territories to set up a joint mechanism for timely compilation of more accurate employment related data, feeding into a centralized dashboard equipped with advanced analytics,” the ministry said in a statement.
“This will aid states and UTs in developing better policies for stimulating quality employment generation,” it added.Talking about the three employment-linked incentive schemes of Rs 1,07,000 crore announced in the Budget 2024-25, Dawra said employment generation and enhancement of skilling and employability are key aspects to the realization of the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.“The government is committed to supporting both large enterprises and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for employment generation, promoting employability and the formalisation of the abour force under the ELI schemes,” she added.
Dawra called for a need to strengthen collaboration and dialogue between the central government and states and UTs for bringing synergy in efforts to facilitate generation of quality employment and ensuring welfare of all workers.
Further, Dawra urged states to plug the gaps and divergences in their respective draft rules across the four Labour Codes by harmonizing and aligning them with the Central rules under the Codes.
