China has the most number of billionaires, followed by the US, said a report by Hurun India released on Wednesday. In total, China and the US have 53% of billionaires in the world, the report added. India stood at the third spot with 187 billionaires while Germany overtook the UK and ranked fourth with 144 billionaires.

The ‘M3M Global Rich List 2023’ noted that the “world lost five billionaires every week for last year”. The report highlighted the number of billionaires declined for the second time in ten years, adding that the number now stands at 3,112 worldwide, down by 269.

The report underscored that Indians are climbing the ranks on the Hurun Global Rich List at the fastest pace in India’s modern history, with Gautam Adani and his family gaining more than 437 ranks over the last decade, reported Live Mint. Mukesh Ambani has bagged the ‘richest Indian’ title after overtaking embattled billionaire Gautam Adani whose fortunes plummeted following a damaging report by US short seller Hindenburg Research. Ambani, who is Asia’s richest person, is also the only Indian to enter the top 10 of the list.

66 billionaires live in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, followed by Delhi and Bengaluru, which have 39 and 21 respectively.

In India, the healthcare sector minted the most number of billionaires followed by consumer goods and chemicals. Globally, the financial services, healthcare, and retail sector dominated the ranking.

Serum Institute of India’s Cyrus S. Poonawalla is the richest healthcare billionaire in the world followed by Dilip Shanghvi and family of Sun Pharmaceutical industries.

Rakesh Gangwal And Rahul Bhatia and family of “Indigo” airlines are the wealthiest aviation billionaires.
