Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal meets US corporate leaders to push India investment opportunities

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a series of bilateral meetings with senior executives from leading American corporations to discuss expanding investment opportunities in India during his official visit to the United States, which runs through October 5.

Among his engagements, Goyal met with Grant McGee, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at retail giant Target.

“Discussed the opportunities for Target to further leverage India’s growing manufacturing opportunities under the Make in India initiative, deepen its presence in the country and expand sourcing from India,” Goyal stated in a post on social media.

The minister also held talks with Amit Banati, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Mondelez International, the multinational food and snack conglomerate.


“We discussed Mondelez’s seven-decade presence in India and opportunities to expand its manufacturing, sourcing and investments. India’s rising consumption and investment-led reforms offer global consumer brands a strong base for growth and for expanding their global supply chains from India,” Goyal noted following the interaction.

In discussions with Greg Case, CEO of global professional services firm Aon, Goyal reviewed the firm’s ongoing domestic operations and avenues for future growth. The minister emphasized India’s emerging positioning as a global hub for innovation, professional talent, and business services, underscoring the scope for strengthened India-US commercial ties.Turning to the technology sector, Goyal met with Paul Grewal, Chief Legal and Global Affairs Officer at AI firm Cognition.

“Exchanged views on leveraging Cognition’s pioneering AI solutions and deepening its presence in India. Highlighted how India’s rich engineering ecosystem and dynamic startup culture provide a strong launchpad for building and deploying next-generation technologies for the world,” the minister shared in a separate update.

In Chicago, Goyal conferred with Juan Ricardo Luciano, Chair of the Board and CEO of agribusiness corporation Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), to outline prospective investment avenues.

“With our rapidly expanding food processing sector, modernizing agricultural value chains, and massive consumer base, India offers tremendous potential for sustainable growth and long term collaboration,” Goyal remarked regarding the meeting.

Additionally, the minister convened a bilateral session with Nike’s senior executive team, including EVP and COO Venkatesh Alagirisamy, EVP and Chief Legal Officer Rob Leinwand, and VP and Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer Jorge Casimiro.

“We discussed opportunities to build on Nike’s longstanding engagement with India and explored avenues to deepen their presence across manufacturing, local sourcing, and the broader sports ecosystem,” Goyal stated.
