Digitisation of processes not reform, simplify governance to boost growth: EAC-PM member Sanyal

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Mere digitisation of administrative processes does not amount to reform, said Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), emphasising that simplifying day-to-day governance is essential to accelerate India’s economic growth.

Speaking at a session on ‘Process Reforms for Ease of Doing Business in India’, Sanyal on Thursday said that true reform requires identifying operational bottlenecks and redesigning procedural steps before applying technological solutions.

The session was organised by Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA) and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar First (CSN First).

Sanyal noted that a large share of administrative difficulties is concentrated in a relatively small number of processes, and prioritising these areas can significantly improve the ease of doing business and the ease of living for citizens.

“Simply computerising an existing process is not process reform. The process must first be made more efficient, followed by the appropriate use of technology,” he said, stressing the need to eliminate unnecessary procedural steps, repetitive documentation, lack of coordination between departments, and outdated regulations.

Highlighting the region’s tourism potential, Sanyal suggested that Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar build its own distinctive tourism model rather than replicating other destinations.Also Read: Closer India-Canada economic cooperation gains importance amid global uncertainty: Sitharaman

Increasing the duration of tourist stays, he noted, would generate sustained economic activity for the local economy.

Speaking on the occasion, State Minister Atul Save highlighted efforts undertaken to attract industrial investment to the region, while mayor Sameer Rajurkar outlined initiatives being undertaken through the local civic administration to transform the city.

CMIA president Atharveshraj Nandawat emphasised the need to combine Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s rich historical heritage with its modern industrial capabilities to establish the city as a leading industrial centre of the future.

He highlighted opportunities emerging from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Industrial City, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, electric vehicles, advanced manufacturing, the drone industry and future growth centres, a release stated.
