Ex-CEA Ashok Lahiri to be next NITI Vice-Chairman

New Delhi: Former chief economic adviser (CEA) Ashok Lahiri will be the next vice-chairman of NITI Aayog, government sources said on Friday. He will replace Suman Bery.

The prime minister is the chairman of the government’s apex public policy think tank.

Lahiri, a member of the 15th Finance Commission, is currently a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He is not contesting the elections this time.

He was appointed CEA in December 2002, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was prime minister.

Gobardhan Das, director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, will become a member of the body.
