US House Ethics panel to meet amid rising pressure for releasing report on Matt Gaetz

The U.S. House of Representatives Ethics Committee will meet Wednesday to discuss the next steps in its investigation of Matt Gaetz, according to two sources familiar with the panel’s plans. Gaetz is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, reported Reuters.
The committee has been investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use against Gaetz. Gaetz resigned from his House seat on Wednesday, hours after Trump nominated him. He denies any wrongdoing.
Some Republican senators want the committee to release its findings on Gaetz. The Senate confirms or rejects presidential appointments.
“The Senate should have access to that,” said Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin. “Should it be released to the public or not? That I guess will be part of the negotiations.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, believes the report should not be made public because Gaetz is no longer a House member.
