NEW DELHI: Canadian police on Monday announced that the death of a 19-year-old Indian-origin girl, whose body was found inside Walmart bakery oven last month, was not the result of foul play.
Gursimran Kaur was found dead inside a walk-in oven at the Walmart on 6990 Mumford Rd. on the evening of October 19th. Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a sudden death at the store and launched an investigation.
“At approximately 9.30 pm, officers responded to a report of a sudden death in the Walmart located at 6990 Mumford Road. A 19-year-old woman, who was an employee of the store, was located deceased in a large walk-in oven belonging to the store’s bakery department,” Halifax Regional Police notified on Facebook.
The police investigation determined the death is not suspicious and there is no evidence of foul play. “Investigators met with family to share this update and extend condolences. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time,” the statement further said.
The Maritime Sikh Society has arranged for psychological counselling for those affected and has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses and to bring family members from India for the last rites.
According to a GoFundMe, Kaur, who came to Canada with big dreams, was working along with her mother at Walmart for the last two years. In the evening of the incident, her mother tried to locate her after not seeing for one hour with phone unreachable.
