The evaluation is based on five principles: fair pay, fair conditions, fair contracts, fair management and fair representation. The Fairwork criteria are divided into two points, with the second point awarded only if the first has been achieved.
Under the fair pay category, only bigbasket and Urban Company earned the first point for implementing a minimum wage policy that ensures workers receive the local hourly wage.
Amazon Flex, bigbasket, BluSmart, Swiggy, Urban Company, Zepto and Zomato were given the first point for ensuring worker safety. All of these except Amazon Flex also scored the first point for fair contracts.
In terms of fair management, Amazon Flex, bigbasket, BluSmart, Flipkart, Swiggy, Urban Company and Zomato were awarded the first point for having established processes and channels for workers to voice their grievances.

Regardless of several instances of worker protests and strikes in the country, none of the 11 companies received a first point on the fifth principle of recognising worker collectives.The Fairwork India team is led by the Centre for Information Technology and Public Policy (CITAPP) at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB), in collaboration with the University of Oxford. The study was conducted through desk research and interviews of 440 workers in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram.
Ola, Porter, and Uber scored zero out of 10 across all five principles, according to the survey.
Flipkart earned its first point only for fair management. Amazon Flex received the first point for fair conditions and fair management.
Zomato and Swiggy both received first and second points for fair conditions, fair contracts and fair management.
