Uber has tied up with hyperlocal logistics provider Shadowfax to integrate the latter’s two-wheeler fleet with the ride-hailing platform’s UberMoto bike-taxi offering.

Two-wheeler riders servicing IPO-bound Shadowfax will be able to switch during lean hours of work to UberMoto and provide bike-taxi services.

In a statement, Uber said the partnership will allow it to strengthen its bike-taxi operations with additional two-wheelers and launch operations in towns where Shadowfax is present.

“We’re working on some incredibly exciting new business model innovations. And we’ll have more to say on that in due course, but this is in the line around truly becoming the operating system for multiple form factors,” Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia, told ET, elaborating on the company’s plans behind such partnerships.

Referring to UberMoto, Singh said: “We are looking to double our entire supply pool by creating third-party integrations with existing two-wheeler service providers who are in the logistics space.”

Uber has gone live with a similar third-party technical integration in New York, where it onboarded the city’s yellow cabs on its ride-sharing platform.

For Shadowfax, which is planning a Rs 3,000 crore initial public offering, this allows it to diversify offerings to its two-wheeler driver partners.“Through this unique integration, we are set to become the most diversified third-party logistics player in India, offering the first app where all forms of earning opportunities are available,” said Praharsh Chandra, cofounder and chief business officer of Shadowfax.

In a statement, Uber said when riders request an UberMoto on the app, they may be matched with Shadowfax drivers. “These trips will be fulfilled by Shadowfax drivers in Shadowfax’s driver app. (There will be) no change in rider experience from their usual Uber trip experience,” it added.

According to sources, the two companies have a revenue-share arrangement for rides booked on UberMoto that are serviced by Shadowfax drivers.
