The Union Cabinet on Wednesday greenlit a substantial allocation of ₹24,475 crore for nutrient-based subsidies on fertilizers, specifically phosphatic and potassic varieties, to support farmers during the upcoming rabi season.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that these subsidised rates will be effective from October 1, 2024, through March 31, 2025.

This initiative aims to ensure that farmers have access to fertilisers at reasonable prices, thereby mitigating the financial strain caused by fluctuations in international fertilizer markets.

The government is rationalising subsidies on P&K fertilisers in response to recent trends in global pricing.

Under this program, 28 grades of phosphatic and potassic fertilisers will be available to farmers at subsidized rates, facilitated through manufacturers and importers.

The subsidy will be allocated to fertiliser companies based on approved rates, ensuring that the benefits reach the farmers directly.
