Union Budget 2024: FM Sitharaman provides Rs 26,000-cr boost to road connectivity projects



Budget 2024: Budget 2024: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced Rs 26,000 crore support for the development of road connectivity projects including Patna -Purnea expressway, Buxar- Bhagalpur highway, Bodhgaya- Rajgir-Vaishali- Darbhanga and an additional two-lane bridge over river Ganga in Buxar.Sitharama said, “On the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor we will support the development of an industrial nod at Gaya in Bihar. It will catalyse the development of the easter region. We will also support the development of road connectivity projects- Patna -Purnea expressway, Buxar- Bhagalpur highway, Bodhgaya- Rajgir-Vaishali- Darbhanga and an additional two-lane bridge over river Ganga in Buxar for Rs 26,000 crores.”

It shows that the Modi government has not deviated from its focus on driving India’s economic momentum through infrastructure growth.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had allocated Rs 2,78,000 crore to road, transport and highways in the Interim Budget in February.

The government aims to bid out 54 road projects worth over Rs 2.2 lakh crore and covering a length of 5200 km on build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, an ET report said in February. The government’s focus is expected to be on new projects in build-operate-transfer (BOT) and PPP mode onboarding private sector and attracting investment as it aims to reduce overall logistics cost.
