The Prince of Wales‘ William is set to feature in a documentary to demonstrate that homelessness can be eradicated.
Following the first year of Prince William‘s five-year Homewards project, the new two-part ITV documentary to be released this autumn will reveal behind-the-scenes work involving various individuals and organizations across six UK locations to create tailored homelessness solutions, through two hour episodes, according to Sky News report.
Several prominent advocates and leading individual projects combating homelessness in the UK will also be featured in the documentary.
In a statement on the Homewards website, Prince William highlighted the substantial challenge of preventing homelessness and expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with people across the UK to achieve this goal.
“Preventing homelessness is a big task, but I look forward to working with individuals across the UK to make our ambition a reality,” William said.
Last year, Prince William initiated the Homewards project aiming to tackle homelessness in Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, the London borough of Lambeth, Newport, Northern Ireland, and Sheffield.
According to the charity, there are currently 300,000 people in the UK experiencing homelessness.
Leo Burley, the director of the documentary, which currently holds the working title “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” shared his insights from the past year of filming. “Over the past year we have spent time following Prince William and The Royal Foundation through the first year of the Homewards programme. We’ve heard some incredibly moving stories from people across the country facing homelessness. Everyone we’ve filmed with has welcomed the spotlight that Prince William and Homewards are placing on the UK’s homelessness crisis,” Burley said.
Amanda Berry, Chief Executive of The Royal Foundation, emphasized the importance of sharing real experiences to inspire action. She said, “By sharing the realities of people’s experiences and those who are coming together to support them, we can inspire action.”
Additionally, Homewards will collaborate with the Saatchi Gallery in southwest London to launch a new art exhibition. The exhibition will showcase works from artists across the UK inspired by their own or others’ experiences of homelessness.
