NEW DELHI: Prince Harry the fifth in line to the throne is set to return to the UK. He will be attending the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8, confirmed by a spokesperson for the Invictus Games. The event marks the 10th anniversary of the games for injured servicemen and women.
Actor Damian Lewis is expected to read the Invictus poem at the service.
The statement from the Invictus Games Foundation on the social media accounts stated, “The Invictus Games Foundation will celebrate 10 years of changing lives and saving lives with a ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8th. We will be joined by our Patron, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, actor Damian Lewis and members of the worldwide Invictus Community to mark the occasion.”
The event is scheduled just after two days from Prince Harry’s son Archie fifth birthday.
The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, who held the first event in London from 10 to 14 September 2014. The statement which was released does not address Meghan Markle about attending the event.
The next games in 2025 will be in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, and will include winter adaptive sports like skiing and curling. Prince Harry and Meghan left their roles as senior royals in 2020 and now live in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. They attended a preliminary event for the games in the US last year. Due to safety concerns, Prince Harry might choose to appear at the Thanksgiving service via video link or a pre-recorded message instead of attending in person.
