NEW DELHI: King Charles of Britain is frustrated from the pace of his recovery from cancer, according to his nephew Peter Phillips. Phillips, the eldest grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth and son of Princess Anne, revealed this information during an interview with Sky News Australia on Sunday, marking the first instance of a royal family member discussing the monarch’s condition in detail.
The revelation about King Charles’ state of mind follows recent news from Kate, Britain’s Princess of Wales, who disclosed on Friday that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy due to the presence of cancer, adding another layer of health concerns within the royal family.
In the interview, Phillips said, “He’s frustrated that he can’t get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do”. He added that despite being pragmatic and acknowledging the necessity of recovery time, King Charles is eager to resume his normal activities.
Phillips noted that the monarch consistently pushes his staff, doctors and nurses to assess what tasks he can undertake during this period.
At 75 years old, King Charles aims to attend a scaled-down Easter service and family gathering next Sunday, although confirmation of his attendance will not be provided in advance. Kensington Palace confirmed the absence of both Kate and her husband, Prince William, from the Easter service.
Earlier in the year, King Charles underwent a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate in January. Buckingham Palace subsequently announced in February that he would undergo treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, leading to the postponement of his public royal duties.
During a visit to Northern Ireland on Thursday, Britain’s Queen Camilla assured the public that her husband, King Charles, is “doing very well.”
