A process has been initiated to empanel eligible startups for procurement of technology products and solutions for state government departments. The government’s move to empanel startups is one of the several initiatives to enhance the startup ecosystem in Karnataka, which ranks number one in software/service exports in the country, a statement from the IT/BT department said. The government has published details on its website itbtst.karnataka.gov.in

IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge had, in October, told ET that the government was working on a procurement policy which will require government departments and bodies to also source from startups.

“This is going to be a game-changer policy for the entire startup ecosystem,” he had said, telling startups that, “If you want to scale up, the government would be a partner.”

The opportunity would be available to startups registered with the state government, and it would include both goods and services the government departments or other arms of the government would buy, the minister had said.
